September 03 Thems the breaks ... bad news beat junkiesHello citizen of the blog-o-sphere ...
Its all gone to hell in a handcart, and a new era is about to dawn I reckon.
So first off I finally got my knee operation done at last - 3 weeks in the reclining position for me, it was a bit nasty in parts but I am very excited about getting full mobility back. The op was done at Haslar hospital in Gosport - an army hospital which was clean and efficient unlike most of the hospitals you hear about. They tried to take a tendon from my ham string but it snapped and they had to change the plan in the operation, they switched to a section taken off my patella so my right leg was a state both front and back! Anyway the following two weeks were a blaze of heavy seditives and synthetic morphine ... drool ... made me uh? What's it? You know ... er ... forgettful.
Now its a hellish few months of physio and a mad scramble to catch up at work. *gulp*
Bad news on the music front unfortunately as Suga Suga has been sold to a new owner and coin op is once again out for the count :( I think I gotta find somewhere more downmarket (ie a venue that serves pints!) and find a new 'vibe' to relight the fire as it were. I guess this really is game over for the opage.
Music and games have been the flavour of the month and I am digging Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney on the DS as well as Prey and Oblivion on the 360 - I tried out Forbidden Siren on PS2 but the controls were unforgivable and I couldnt be bothered anymore. Music wise I got the new SOnic youth LP 'Rather Ripped' which ok but a bit lightwieght for the yoof. Lambchop 'Damage' which is mellow gold and TV on the Radio which is really interesting stuff akin to funkadelic and my bloody valentine spliced together - tis odd but really good.
So Ill sign off with some gratuitous knee pics ew!

eamonio flatfoot jesus May 17 This Friday ...Back once again after a slight pause in the proceedings Suga Suga is once again hosting a night of classic house and underground electronic music from 6 till 12 this Friday night. As usual happy hour runs till 8pm and a Sony discount at the bar is mandatory all night long! Join us for cocktails (they do jugs too now), beers and fine wine this friday and kick off the weekend in style. On the turntables we have ... Eops (Coin op, Hands Free Recordings) We shall dispense with the funk this week in order to concentrate on building a deep house groove from the start ... In the bag this week ... Nice up the dance ... with a big sound about you! February 04 New Gig!Just a quick heads up for next thursday the 9th of Febuary, Ill be
spinning tunes with Lewis D and Dave Mothersole @ Inigo in Clapham. http://www.inigobar.com/ Should be a top night of electro house and tech funk in a swish bar - hurrah! Hope to see a few of you shaking a leg there! I am still negotiating with Suga Suga but its looking good for another season except I cant afford to have Kieth and Jamie play every week so the guests will need to be rotated - more details to follow and massive thanks to SOUL FRIENDLY for their support - I dont think they need me anymore as they have their tabernacle night on the go. chow for now! eamonio (seventh son of mechzilla) x January 12 End of the year review ...Starting way back when ... I was bored a poor child of the climax corporation but the sword of Damacles was daggling over my head ...
January:
I was already mentally moving on, I had prepared myself to move on a few months previously when many of my friends and accomplices had been given the boot from the pirate ship climax - the news was not exactly out of the blue more sort of out of the gloom. As soon as it became clear that there was an iceberg dead ahead the more organised of us (eg Fatty) had knocked up a cv and hit the post office - thats not realy my style tho, I still had some self loathing and wallowing to do. I just felt a bit cheated after working my ass off for five years without so much as a thank you while my esteemed bosses raced motor boats or pretended to be human. So in a way I felt the dice had been cast - so in true reactive style I bit the hand that bleeded me. You see before I left for the xmas break I penned a short fuck you note to my old boss (to the tune of 'Frankly Mr shankly' by The Smiths), thinking I was never to return. So you can imagine the mixed emotions when I got the letter saying that I wasn't to be sacked after all - there had been a reprieve thanks to a small yellow sponge called Bob and the next generation of games machines (or the Gizmondo as it became laughingly known).
Well I did not think the girl
Could be so cruel And I'm never going back To my old school ... oh shit yes I am! February:
So my return to the bosom of my company saw me up on a diciplinary charge for humour above and beyond the call of duty. I suppose I should be grateful they didnt sack me but I lost a lot of respect for the management skipped their own diciplinary code and jumped me straight on to an ominous last warning - I should have been given a written warning of sacked imo - but I guess I should be grateful, I mean I was mentally ready to move on but I have to admit retaining regular cheques helped ease the fiscal situation. My heart was not in it tho - spongebob can kiss my ass. I formed an escape commitee in my head.
March:
Spring was sprung but I was still full of bile from the winter - the production of the Spongebob game was transparently awful - a typical pirate ship style rush job which made it impossible to take any pride in my work. Oh and surprise surprise the GIzmondo suddenly didnt look like it was going to take over the games world, we were all 'really stunned' by that realisation I can tell you. I had to move out of my home in Eldon Street where me and Tom had been pretty happy housemates on the quick because he fell into a job at Ninja Theory without breaking a sweat - which was great because he deserved it but it meant that I had a major time limit pushed upon me. I knew I had to get out but had no idea where to go except that I wanted to join Lupa in London ... however with most London studios closing down my choices were getting slimmer by the minute.
April:
Fortune smiled on me - Jimmy Lane was working closely with me on SpongeBob and we both wanted out - this meant we didnt want to sign up for a long house contract so we pitched in together at Leigh BIrds Fawcett Road Palace - this was to prove a massive relief, we both got on and with coin op we found a party house HQ! I knew if I was to stay in games I would need to get a job at Kuju or Sony - easy huh? So I sent off a CV or two and began to think about whether I could work in advertising. Hmmm work wise I reckon I could do really well but soul wise advertising was satans after school club. I decided I was def going to London even if I was to be unemployed. Distress flares were launched - as were a series of increasingly debauched coin op parties :)
May:
Tick tock! The Spomge Bob project was getting worse by the day with less than a week for a whole level to be designed built and tested - all with basic tools devoid of instructions. God help me! Coffee break walks and such like became the glue which enabled me to keep my shit together - no sign of any work from agencies without having to relocate to outer mongolia, and no let up in the gloom of climax - a company that now hated me as much as I hated it. THEN ... a chink of light! SONY appeared in my in box!!!!
June:
I wangled a four day week through my need for physio on my knee which gave me Monday afternoon to search for work. Sony set up an interview for me which was precursed by an in depth design test I felt destined to fail. However my situation forced me to apply myself and I got my sit working - an interview came and went without me doing or saying anything hopelessly wrong. Sure they must have laughed at my fro but I got a second interview and another test to complete and fuck me backwards they didnt hate me! Then one day my inbox was checked for the eight-thousanth time that afternoon and the magical words 'Job Offer appeared in the subject heading!!! One last mammouth Coin Op party was et up and it was time to say goodbye to Pompey and some of my favourite people. Our posse which just a month before was tighter than a ducks ass was suddenly split wide open in a flurry of feathers and quacking! They went everywhere - Canada, Scotland, Brighton, even Holland! Great characters I had kind of grown up with (despite being 30 when I began). Cheers to you all! :P
July:
A new hope - well I had to say that if only for Rudsy :)
Me and Lucie are finally living in the same flat after a decade of shits and giggles, East end - knees up country - small fish - whacking great ocean! Welcome to London!
Welcome indeed I had just got off the Aldgate tube train ten minutes before the suicide bombers blew it up! Not really the start a nervous non londoner wants at his new job - I had only been there three days! Now of course it was horrible and very distressing but somehow my fear on the big city was negated that night as I realised I had to walk home - I had no clue where to go, and most of the route I pecilled into my AtoZ was cordened off by the police anyway. The weird thing was that I had always hated London and its selfish unfriendly non-eye-contact making punters that scrummed their way across town everyday without a kind word between them, but suddenly there was a real sense of we are all in the same boat-ness. As I walked home the streets were full of Londoners who were ... well ... helping each other! It might only have been a week until all was back to normal and eye contact was once again out of fashion but I suddenly saw that when the chips are down London is a town full of people who only treat each other like objects out of the necessity of surviving in a crowd full of strangers - that day people helped each other and I gave up hating the city as a matter of course. I could suddenly deal with it - I got my beautiful girlfriend, a dream job and a strange and complicated city of possibilities to explore! Up yours Al-queida - that was not the reaction you were looking for was it? Cunts!
Augist:
Job good, flat good, even London good - just one thing left to make for a happy Eamon, a place to spin some tunes! As if by magic me and Lucy fell into a small basement bar called Suga Suga and overheard the management bitching about their lack lustre DJ's. A quick cd later and a plan was hatched - COin op was about to evolve. In the mean time I went to France on holiday - lovely jubs!
September:
The Suga night was definitley on and after a very low key start I was offered a trial run. to my great good fortune I met a couple of top DJs to play with keith and Jamie of SOUL FRIENDLY. their lardy house style coupled with the swanky surrounds of Soho meant Coin Op would swing towards electro house and away from hardcore breaks, which was ok I guess - a change is as good as a rest! By the end of September I had held my birthday party at the club and was very happy to be joined by some of the posse from pompey! I partied hardy and made myself ill just as it should be :)
October:
Ill just snivelling, snotty bullshit illness! :(
But on the plus side just as I felt a bit better and returned to work my boss called me in for the end of my trial period at SONY. Thankfully he gave me the green light and I became a real boy at last! During the interview however he coughed up a face full of flu germs he had collected from his children and returned me fully employed to my sickbed as a fully paid up game designer!
November:
I went on a health kick in between more Coin Op shananigans and began to really dig the electro house music style I was spinning in between the SOUL FRIENDLY boys, the night was really getting busy and we even caught a few gigs as I began to settle in to life in London. Who would ever have thought I could do anything but hate the place!!!
December:
SONY threw a series of top parties which made an evening at TigerTiger pale into insignificance - I began to make some friends, Keith, Jamie, Kate, Simon etc and some of the refugees from Climax began to wash up on SONY island! Damo, Jimmy and Phil are all set to move in on my project - the powerbabe dream team is coming back! We had a lovely quiet xmas and although we had to cancel the new years eve party me and Lucie hit the streets on a random wander after 12, we ended up in a record shop for a while where the workers were spinning tunes picked out by the revellers in the racks! This first Eastend New Years was rounded off in a 'local pub' near brick lane. It was truly a scene from 'stenders' with a london boxer in a blonde wig, a couple pensioners and a plethora of salt of the earth types drinking beer into the wee hours to the strains of the Agadoo megamix blaring out at top volume! Class!
So in summary - bombs aside - this has been a year on the up - I am living with my true love, working on a next gen AAA title for the biggest games company in the world and I feel really well treated and appreciated - the opage of Coin continues to evolve and I think (*touches wood) I am going to be very happy here! :)
Big up to all my posse everywhere - Happy NewYear ...
December 05 Bwahaha!Greetings special monkeys -
November 20 Turned out nice again ...Well the last Suga Suga went really well in the end! Amanda showed up (an old friend from Banbury) and we had a top night with SOUL FRIENDLY playing alongside myself - twas good! They got a party coming up on the 3rd of Decemeber which I will post up details for :) Last night I went to Tom Colvins birthday party and span tunes with Pete and Laney - very nice too although I had a dirty 80s set which was kinda evil :P Hence Im knackered - so Ill leave it there for now ... Till I develop some self discipline - 10/10 eamonio x November 10 Party's party's party's ...So first up - tomorrow is Coin op at the sucre del sucre (SugaSuga)
Please ... god please come.
Had a wierd one last week when due to a triple whammy of shit happening it all dried up :-/
Thats because -
1) It was a pissy rainy night at the end of the month ... gah!
2) My alluring promise of Colin Dale and Lewis hit a snag - i.e. they couldnt come.
3) It was the SONY party the night before and no way could I compete with the Dynisiastic excess that delivered!
Yeah so blah blah blah to one stinky night and yehaw to SONY!
It consisted of a free nights boose (including a wee bottle of champagne upon entry)
Dozens ladies and gents in skimpy costumes - all dancing for my pleasure
A roller disco
A lot of games
A roof terrace with Karaoke
Bassment Jaxx and Norman Jay on the Mix
and the stunning Miss Dita Von Tease performing a burlesque striptease routine complete a quick dip in a petite lady sized champagne glass ... fe real!
It kinda reminded me why Climax party's in Tiger Tiger always felt like a cheap spoon of sugar thrust down the throat of a man dying of thirst. It wasnt just bigger and better - it was rewarding - I felt kind of er ... appreciated - yay!
The massive drinking session oddly cured my cold too! Awesome!
So if suga was a little quiet then hey it was worth it - I felt kinda bad for Vinyl Matt tho cos he played well but there was not much in the way of funkateers.
Ah well tomorrow is another day my pretty's - hopefully Charlotte has got me a flagger to do some promotional work on the night :)
now you wanna see Dita? Wow that Marylin Manson is one lucky dude! October 23 Return of the slack ...Well I dont know if anyone noticed my extended absense from the emporium del eamonio for the last couple weks since my birthday but if you thought I had given up - rest assured I nearly did!
However it took a lotout of me that birthday party :)
Lots of stuff to catch up on - but it seems only fair to start with the party itself ...
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO MADE IT DOWN! It really made my night to see you all
So the night itself went really well with lots of the posse coming together for a London based shindig - there are plenty of pictures on DSI and I will add a few more here to my gallery asap. The DJ line up was swollen to begin with but Laney couldnt get down cos of work - which is a shame, then Steve Bedford rang say he was ill and I was strugglin, then he passed on (well told me) that Frog was not going to play (thanks for not even bothering to phone me mate!), anyway Steve was kind enough to come and play despite the sniffles. Initially of course this was marvellous news with EVILPAUL having been delayed coming down from scotland but eventually I realised that his presence might have saved my night but also gave me the lurgie which I have been hopelessly struggling against since! Still big up to those that span tunes you were all ace!
The club was pretty busy and a good night was had by all, we even started some proper coin op breaks action at the end of the night (although the mixing was interrupted by some out-of-control dancing by a couple funksters!).
I was worried about how we were going to get back before the crowd to my house - but after some unsuccessful taxi flagging a genius idea struck and we all simply jumped the night bus back as one massive group! It was a great laugh squishing in - only Nicole managed to garner a space around herself (mostly due to the fact she was close to vomit city and the rest of the passengers knew it!) Still we all got back in one foul swoop and drank beer and stuff as you do he he ...
So I had an ace time - got lots of pressies and best of all got to hang with so many buddys. Thanks!
The aftermath was messy - Lucie went on a twenty four hour bender with Kirsty and I managed to drink myself safely through till sunday before I started feeling the sickness take over. Other upsets came for Paul who lost his DS :( and Mark and Nicole who unfortunately slept through their alarm and had their car towed away - DISASTER! Still I believe all was well in the end.
Then there was a week of snot
apres lurgie I was back in the saddle at Suga suga - of course expecting a quiet night - uh NO! It was completely rammed again the following session - even more people than my party night - mental skental!
Me Jamie and Kieth had a top night mixing away and for the first time coin op had a ... wait for it ... a ...
A QUEUE!
Straight up people waiting to get in - WOW! I got blurry pictures but they read more like modern art than history in the making lol
So other business ...
I had my probation review at SONY and I am proud to say I am a real boy at last - a designer in residence on a bonafide PS3 product yay!
Next Thursday we have playstations 10th birthday party at a massive club in kings cross but I feel shitty AGAIN and I dont know if I will make it - more worrying is Suga suga the following night which I have to play doh!
BUT on that note I have some very cool news - I managed to book in some top guests - my old sparring partner Vinyl Mat now resides in London so I booked him in and I bumped into Lewis D on DontStayIn.com and I hve him coming down also - now here is the kicker ... Lewis is good mates with the legendary Colin Dale (Fantasia/Kiss FM/many an old rave up) and he is going to drag him along for a spin too - this is great cos I used to rave my ass off to his techno genius back in the day - coin op is truly honoured!
So if you can hit Soho next friday do it - its gonna be cool.
Now of course no one is this lucky for this long and I have the feeling my last ounce of good luck was snaffled on friday afternoon when the house got broken into by stealing junkie scum.
They busted in on Friday afternoon and robbed the place - well at least they kicked in the door to the upstairs flat and robbed my nieghbour Gaby but unbelievably they couldnt kick my door down! So we got away with it - hence my ability to type this now! THANK YOU GOD!!!!
All is well apart from a burgeoning sense of paranoia and broken door frame that must be replaced with a massive iron gate and some sniper towers!
Its down to us to get the landlord on the case and luckily Lucie is all over it like a rash while I am feeling sick AGAIN!!!!
So I am counting up my lucky stars and snuffling in my sickbed - but once again thanks to the posse for coming and supporting the opage - you guys Rawk!
Phew! Big typage! Gotta hang ten now - Aaaachoo!
*cough - wheeze* must be getting old ...
Coin op Friday 28th - Eops Vinyl Matt Lewis D and Colin Dale - nice nice nice!

September 17 The opage is back!Last night felt like a proper opening night of a club - the venue was throbbing from start to finish! Soul Friendly and myself played all night - me and Jamie did a bit of funk early doors then with the able keith we all got funking on a house tip and I even got to the stage where I was droppping that real electro breaks sound at the end - just like its supposed to be!
Basically last night kicked ass!!!
A load of the sony eye toy team came down to start with and that really helped establish a buzz - we got some flaggers out and about dishing out flyers with sweets in and everything just clicked! I was worried that after a while the work posse would dissapear and it would empty out but the flyers were a massive hit and drew people in all night - it was absolutly heaving at one stage and really busy right up to the end! Quality street!
Kieth and Jamie played a blinder and are proving a total joy to work with, the got funky (as is their want), but also backed me up when the place was rocking by playing as tough as they could, we watched the volume at key moments to ensure we didnt loose the crowd (I love DJs that listen to me when I ask for things like that - I have played with so many numpties who think louder harder faster is the only way to keep people). It worked to - there was not a single moment when the bar got empty - that is the art to it all you know - keep people feeling comfy and they will stay, if they stay then more people will arrive and a party ensues, THEN you can start rocking out AND BOY DIDN'T WE!
I was just stoked!
Check the very burry crap phone pics in the coin op gallery - it doesent do it justice but hints at what was!
Thanks to everyone that came last night - you made an old man very happy!
PS Dan that flyer has totally hit the nail on the head!
September 14 The snowball effect ...The guest list is expanding like a great big thing full of stuff! Evilpaul - James Lane - Steve Bedford - Frog - all coming to spin a tune or two Nutty Swanny (other people whose name ends in a y sound) Sam Elco Dan ... Perhaps Brian and Clare Finch even! Sammi Barney Charlotte Jools Kathy Lisa Timmy P Kirsty PAt - waiting on TOm And PEte and sarah Mark and lexie etc etc etrc tc e ... BLOODY ALL SORTS! Its all got so OTT ... Marvellous. useful things ...
